About Us
Our Experience
The founder and principal engineer of HGeo Consulting Inc., Ian Hall is committed to providing integrity driven, practical, and sustainable solutions for his client’s challenges in the mining industry.
Mr. Hall has a diverse background in applying the principles of geological and geotechnical engineering to the design and construction of large engineering projects worldwide. His experience includes tailings dam, water management dam, and mining structure/civil infrastructure in northern climates from Alaska, Yukon, and Nunavut to temperate climates in British Columbia and Ontario, tropical climates in the Dominican Republic and Brazil, and high altitude in Argentina.
Mr. Hall’s experience encompasses concept to closure design, and boots on the ground implementation for tailings dam, water management dam, heavy civil mine construction, and independent tailings review board membership, and includes:
- 20+ years of experience in geological and geotechnical engineering, with a focus on mining dams, construction, site characterization, risk assessment, and operational support
- 8+ years of experience as Engineer of Record for a major operating tailings facility, and successfully guiding it on the path to meet the Global International Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM) requirements
- 8+ years working remotely, productively leading a design and Engineer of Record team.
Amongst other experience, with respect to tailings and water management dams, Mr. Hall has:
- Evaluated the integrity of dam designs through dam safety inspections, dam safety reviews, geotechnical and risk assessments, due diligence reviews, and independent tailings review board membership
- Supported conceptualization and design for new facilities and the expansion of existing facilities
- Designed mitigation works to manage seismic and static loading stability and capacity limitations
- Provided operational planning, design, and construction services to support tailings facility permitting and operations in order to reduce risk, improve construction quality and dam safety, increase operational efficiency, meet closure objectives, and manage facility requirements.
